8 Ways to Naturally Detox

So if your weekend plans went a little crazy and you ate one too many meals out or had one too many vodka sodas…don’t worry SummerGirl Fitness is here with some amazing NATURAL ways to detox from the weekend. No crazy juice cleanses, no detox pills and no gimmicks. Simple, clean and healthy is the way to go – so here you are, your 8 natural ways to detox! Ready, set, detox!

1. Drink Lemon Water

Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is a great way to detox and flush toxins out of your body. Lemons are full of vitamin C which can help the body detox, and the antioxidants in lemons also activate enzymes to aid digestion.

2. Stock Up on the Dark Leafy Greens

Dark leafy greens are full of so many incredible vitamins and minerals, but they are also full of chlorophyll which helps your body detox naturally. Chlorophyll blocks the absorption of certain harmful substances and help your body rid itself of unwanted toxins.

3. Trade Coffee for Green Tea

Drinking liquids is especially important after an indulgent weekend, but add a cup or two of green tea to your diet in addition to water. Green tea is high in catechin – which helps your liver function optimally and increase the production of detoxifying enzymes.

4. Increase your Fiber Intake Naturally

Fiber is so important to keep your internal system running strong and keep foods moving through. Some great foods that are high in natural fiber are: whole grains, pear with skin, apple with skin, lentils, black beans.

5. Drink 4 L of Water

Water helps flush toxins out of our body naturally. Even if you normally drink enough water, after a weekend with salty foods or extra drinks it’s a good idea to take the water up a notch. Aim for 4L of water to keep your metabolism running strong and your system healthy.

6. Sweat it Out at the Gym

Nothing says detox after an overindulgent weekend better then an intense sweat session. Start your week off strong with a workout that challenges you and gets your heart rate pumping. Try some intervals, circuits, or tabata to challenge your body in a new way.

7. Sleep, sleep, sleep

If your weekend got a little crazy, Monday can be a great time to get back on your routine and that means getting back on a normal sleep schedule. Sleep is SO important to keep your metabolism running strong and to reduce cravings for sugary and carby foods. Make sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night to power your way through the week.

8. Yoga or Meditation to Detox the Mind

Along with detoxing your body, you also need to take time to detox the mind and spirit. Doing some yoga or a quick meditation to start your Monday is a great way to get centered before the stress of the work week takes hold. Set your goals, focus on the present and become mentally ready for a great healthy week ahead.

I hope these tips help to naturally detox your body from the weekend. Give them a try and let me know in the comments below what you think!
