4 Healthy Habits to Get in Shape for Spring

With warmer months just around the corner, it’s time to start shaping up for spring clothes and bikini season. Part of staying healthy and losing weight has to do with healthy daily habits that keep you on track every day. Below are 4 healthy habits that will help get you in shape this spring. Add these major, fundamental health tips into your daily routine. If you start doing these every day – the rest will take care of itself.

1. Drink 3 L of Water a Day

I cannot stress enough how important it is to drink enough water every day. Your body cannot function without proper hydration and drinking water daily is essential for keeping your metabolism running. Water also helps you feel fuller and avoid overeating at meals. Monitor your water intake throughout the day to prevent dehydration and make sure to rehydrate after a tough workout. Fill a liter water bottle and refill it 3 times throughout the day in order make sure you drink enough.

2. Do Something Active Every Day

Staying active is so important for keeping your body healthy and strong and promoting weight loss. Whether you like going to the gym, walking your dog, or taking a bike ride through the park – make it a goal to do something active every day. 3 days a week this may be a workout at the gym, but the other days might be a walk on the beach, a yoga class, or taking a hike with a friend.

3. Get 8 Hours of Sleep a Night

Sleep deprivation can upset body chemistry, increases stress levels and as a result, cause your metabolism to slow down. Stay healthy and reduce stress by getting around 8 hours of sleep a night. While we sleep our bodies release important hormones that have beneficial effects on tissue and muscle repair and your metabolism. On the flip side, sleep deprivation can cause an increase in the stress hormone Corisol that increases appetite and slows metabolism.

4. Write it Down

This is one of the MAJOR secrets of weight loss. Write down what you eat! Even if you are not specifically counting calories, write down what you eat in order to monitor the types of food you are eating and stay accountable and aware of what you are putting into your body. Often we eat empty calories that we do not even realize are there. Write down what you eat, and then try to make small adjustments to a healthier lifestyle.
